The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is looking for a Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician III located in Trenton, New Jersey.

The Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician will oversee regional operational excellence, coordinate complex preventative and corrective maintenance, manage state electrical permitting and act as a regional safety approval authority.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders and should have a minimum of five years of dedicated experience in solar PV installation, operations and maintenance.

Position Overview

This is a senior field leadership position combining utility-scale solar O&M, electrical safety authority, medium-voltage troubleshooting, commissioning, permitting, quality assurance, vendor coordination and technician mentorship.

Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of operational excellence and event-free operations throughout regional work.
  • Act as the Regional Approval Authority for PLOTO and switch plan LOTO procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable State Authorities Having Jurisdiction, electrical codes, safety regulations and company standards.
  • Review, submit and manage the electrical permitting process in alignment with state requirements.
  • Perform and coordinate complex preventative and corrective maintenance on commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems.
  • Troubleshoot modules, inverters, combiner boxes, medium-voltage equipment and other electrical components.
  • Perform commissioning and quality assurance audits for new and existing solar electric systems.
  • Safely and independently operate in medium-voltage 34,500VAC and 1500VDC environments.
  • Develop corrective action plans for complex electrical faults, including grounding issues, wiring problems and equipment malfunctions.
  • Supervise or review regional field work and mentor junior technicians on electrical maintenance, technical procedures and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the O&M Manager to improve regional site performance, production and operational efficiency.
  • Work with the Regional Manager and third-party vendors on installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and warranty maintenance.
  • Manage complex, high-priority and unusual projects as part of premium client services.
  • Provide recommendations for technician training, safety plans, SOPs and overall O&M and commissioning improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to expedite field repairs and warranty claims.
  • Document faults, site deficiencies and unusual operational occurrences.
  • Track time, materials and travel expenses accurately within the CMMS.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of dedicated experience in solar PV installation, operations and maintenance.
  • Active Master Electrician license.
  • Master-level understanding of electrical theory, principles and commercial or utility-scale solar configurations.
  • High proficiency with specialized electrical test equipment and advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Proven ability to work safely and independently in 34,500VAC and 1500VDC conditions.
  • Advanced troubleshooting, analytical and technical root-cause problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced ability to read, interpret and redline complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring field teams and managing vendor relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
