The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is searching for a Payroll Specialist for a position located in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing union payroll, payroll reporting and government taxes.

The role works closely with field management to collect union employee documentation, review field time entries, process weekly payroll and manage union liabilities, deductions, taxes and remittances.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders. The position is not eligible for sponsorship. A High School Diploma or GED and at least three years of payroll experience are required.

Position Overview

This role connects field payroll data, union employee records, ERP workflows, weekly payroll, payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, remittances, reconciliation and regulatory reporting.

Payroll Specialist Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with field management staff to collect union new hire paperwork.
  • Ensure employee information is complete and accurate, following up on missing or incorrect documentation.
  • Create union employee records in the ERP system and update employment data or status changes.
  • Ensure severance, termination and disciplinary forms are reflected appropriately in payroll records.
  • Review field time-entry reports for potential errors involving hours, union designation, pay class and per diem.
  • Follow up with site teams to resolve time-entry issues before payroll is processed.
  • Process weekly union payroll and off-cycle checks by importing time details and validating entries.
  • Confirm calculations for earnings, deductions, garnishments, union liabilities and taxes.
  • Ensure employee paychecks are distributed on time.
  • Prepare monthly union remittances.
  • Calculate remittance amounts using system reports and submit payment requests.
  • Reconcile liabilities accrued against payments.
  • Match payments with labor details and remit payments to the appropriate funds.
  • Prepare payroll reports, review them for accuracy and resolve discrepancies for business recordkeeping and compliance.
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries related to union employee payroll.
  • Submit new hire reports to state agencies.
  • Process child support and other court orders as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of payroll experience.
  • Union construction payroll experience is preferred.
  • Experience processing construction payroll is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle or another large enterprise software vendor is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to manipulate and analyze payroll data.
