The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is looking for a Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician III located in El Paso, Texas.

The technician will lead complex inspections, troubleshooting and repairs while providing technical direction and mentorship to junior solar technicians.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders and should have two to four years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field.

Position Overview

This senior field role combines solar plant inspections, preventative maintenance leadership, PLOTO and LOTO planning, complex system diagnostics, corrective-action planning, technical reporting and technician development.

Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician Responsibilities

  • Ensure field work is performed in accordance with established safety policies and procedures.
  • Review field tasks and ensure the correct PPE is available and used properly.
  • Create PLOTO and LOTO switch plans for approval.
  • Act as work leader for Pre-Job Briefs, Job Safety Analysis, Personal LOTO and switch plan LOTO activities.
  • Lead comprehensive inspections of solar power plants.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
  • Supervise and train junior technicians on inspection and maintenance procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex solar-system issues, including grid-integration and communication problems.
  • Use advanced diagnostic tools and software to identify and address system-performance issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective-action plans for identified system deficiencies.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering inspections, maintenance and repairs.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for management.
  • Maintain strong work-order documentation and provide oversight and direction to junior technicians on documentation quality.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging solar technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Contribute to the development of technical training materials and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two to four years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field.
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid New Mexico CID Journeyman Electrician certificate with EE-98J classification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • NFPA 70E certification.
  • FAA Part 107 certification or proficiency operating drones for aerial thermographic purposes.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, solar energy technologies and grid-tied systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools including I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers and isolation testers.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior technicians in the field.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
