The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is looking for a Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician located in El Paso, Texas.

The technician will perform advanced inspections, preventative maintenance and core troubleshooting across operating solar-energy systems.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders and should have at least two years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field.

Position Overview

This field role combines solar inspections, advanced preventative maintenance, electrical safety, system troubleshooting, technical reporting and hands-on support for junior technicians.

Solar Operations & Maintenance Technician Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in promoting a safe working culture in the field.
  • Safely perform approved hazardous electrical energy-control procedures and select the exact PPE required for each task.
  • Participate in and actively critique Pre-Job Briefs and Job Safety Analyses, use personal LOTO as a worker or act as work leader when approved.
  • Perform comprehensive electrical and mechanical inspections of solar energy systems.
  • Conduct advanced preventative maintenance, including infrared thermography, insulation resistance testing and I/V curve tracing.
  • Help develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for assigned sites.
  • Independently diagnose and troubleshoot system and operational issues.
  • Safely operate and troubleshoot in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct supervision.
  • Use specialized diagnostic tools and technical root-cause analysis to support equipment repairs and replacements.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation covering inspections, maintenance and repairs with minimal oversight.
  • Prepare clear technical reports and actionable equipment recommendations for the Team Lead.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, safety updates and emerging solar technologies.
  • Share knowledge, technical expertise and supportive guidance with junior technicians.
  • Contribute to improving company training materials for technical quality, clarity and safety.
  • Assist other team members and complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the solar industry or a related electrical field.
  • Valid New Mexico CID Journeyman Electrician certificate with EE-98J classification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical systems, solar energy principles and grid-connected systems.
  • Familiarity with specialized diagnostic tools, including I/V Curve Tracers, Meggers and isolation testers.
  • Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems is preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 certification and familiarity operating drones for aerial thermography.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification is preferred.
  • NFPA 70E certification is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead by example when collaborating with junior technicians.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
