This St. Louis role focuses on electrical systems studies and protective relay settings for electric utility and industrial power distribution systems, including projects up to the 500 kV voltage level.
The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is searching for a Senior Electrical Engineer for a position located in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design and power system study assignments across utility, industrial, process, healthcare, manufacturing, government and infrastructure projects.

The role is heavily focused on protective relay settings, system protection, short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, current transformer performance, distance protection and power-system studies.

The engineer will also support project managers, perform quality reviews, mentor less experienced team members and contribute to business development and marketing initiatives.

Position Overview

This senior role combines power system studies, protective relaying, transmission and distribution protection, relay configuration, system modeling, technical QA/QC and engineering leadership.

Senior Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Execute complex electrical engineering assignments using advanced technical methods.
  • Develop improved engineering processes, equipment applications and technical approaches.
  • Coordinate project studies, technical reports and design assignments.
  • Perform power system studies on utility and industrial projects.
  • Develop protection settings for systems up to 500 kV.
  • Coordinate protection settings across multiple electrical devices.
  • Develop design-basis documentation for protective settings.
  • Generate native relay configuration files.
  • Perform design reviews.
  • Support quality-control activities.
  • Assist project managers with scope development.
  • Support conceptual project design.
  • Train and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Mentor technical team members.
  • Support business-development initiatives.
  • Support marketing activities related to electrical engineering services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field.
  • Seven years of experience performing electrical systems studies.
  • Experience must include electric utility or industrial power distribution systems.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure.
  • Previous experience developing protective relay settings.
  • Transmission or Distribution protection experience required.
  • Experience with common power-system modeling software.
  • Familiarity with ASPEN.
  • Familiarity with CAPE.
  • Familiarity with CYME.
  • Familiarity with ETAP.
  • Familiarity with SKM or comparable software.
  • Knowledge of protection schemes used at Transmission and Distribution substations.
  • Knowledge of protection philosophies applied to utility power systems.
  • Experience developing SEL relay settings.
  • Experience using SEL AcSELerator.
  • Experience developing GE relay settings.
  • Experience using GE Enervista.
  • Ability to read electrical single-line diagrams.
  • Ability to interpret three-line diagrams.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics.
  • Ability to interpret functional diagrams.
  • Experience performing short-circuit calculations.
  • Experience evaluating current transformer performance.
  • Experience selecting current transformer ratios.
  • Experience coordinating over-current elements.
  • Experience selecting and coordinating zone-distance elements.
  • Experience calculating relay loadability.
  • Grounding study experience is a plus.
  • Arc Flash study experience is a plus.
  • Additional power-system study experience is valuable.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.
  • Sponsorship is not available.
  • Local candidates preferred or open to relocation.
  • This is not a remote position.
