The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is searching for an Electrical Engineer for a position located in Wallingford, Connecticut; Newton, Massachusetts; Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; or Morristown, New Jersey.

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design of high-voltage electrical substations while supporting both physical substation design and protection and control engineering.

Work includes proposals, scope development, conceptual design, project execution planning, engineering estimates, schedules, equipment specifications and technical calculations.

The engineer will also coordinate with civil, structural, network and transmission line teams, support clients, perform quality reviews and provide short-term construction field support.

This role combines high-voltage substation physical design, protection & control, grounding studies, lightning protection, AC/DC auxiliary systems, equipment specifications, quality review and field support.

Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and develop project scopes.
  • Develop conceptual substation designs.
  • Prepare project execution plans.
  • Prepare engineering cost estimates.
  • Prepare labor estimates.
  • Develop engineering schedules.
  • Perform physical substation design.
  • Develop substation yard layouts.
  • Prepare plans, sections and details.
  • Design substation grounding systems.
  • Design lightning protection systems.
  • Develop control-building arrangements.
  • Design interior raceway systems.
  • Design exterior raceway systems.
  • Design auxiliary AC power systems.
  • Design auxiliary DC power systems.
  • Prepare associated bills of material.
  • Perform protection and control design.
  • Develop control panel arrangements.
  • Prepare one-line and single-line diagrams.
  • Prepare three-line diagrams.
  • Develop AC schematics.
  • Develop DC elementary drawings.
  • Prepare equipment wiring diagrams.
  • Develop relay-panel wiring drawings.
  • Prepare engineering calculations.
  • Prepare grounding study reports.
  • Prepare lightning-protection studies.
  • Prepare AC/DC load studies.
  • Develop equipment specifications.
  • Support equipment procurement.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Coordinate with Civil and Structural teams.
  • Coordinate with Network teams.
  • Coordinate with Transmission Line teams.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Mentor less experienced team members.
  • Meet regularly with clients.
  • Coordinate with external personnel.
  • Perform quality reviews for engineers.
  • Perform quality reviews for designers.
  • Provide short-term field support during construction.
  • Support business-development activities.
  • Support marketing initiatives.
  • Support relay-setting work where required.
  • Support 3D or intelligent design initiatives.
  • Participate in industry or technical committees where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Three years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology may qualify.
  • Engineering Technology candidates must successfully complete the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Three years of electrical engineering experience still required under the Engineering Technology path.
  • Consulting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering procedures.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • MicroStation experience.
  • Experience with 2D rendering programs.
  • Experience with 3D rendering programs.
  • Experience with engineering analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Engineer in Training certification preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.
